What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s key program for providing support to people living with a disability. Managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), the NDIS is designed to empower individuals with disabilities by giving them the resources and services they need to live more independently and achieve their goals.

The NDIS supports people under 65 with a permanent and significant disability. It provides funding for essential services and supports like therapies, assistive technology, and personal care. Importantly, the NDIS operates with a focus on individualized care—participants have the flexibility to choose the services and providers that suit their unique needs.

Participants receive a personalized NDIS plan that outlines their goals and the types of support they can access. This funding can be used to access various services such as daily living assistance, transportation, capacity-building programs, and much more. The NDIS also helps connect participants with community supports, encouraging a holistic approach to disability care. With its focus on choice and control, the NDIS plays a vital role in improving the quality of life for individuals
